ANN ARBOR (October 3, 2014) – The Michigan Sport Business Conference Planning Committee has been busy preparing for the 2014 conference on Friday, October 24. This is the fourth installment of weekly recaps leading up to the conference. Here is a recap of the major announcements from this week:
Adam Schefter announced that John Collins, Chief Operating Officer of the National Hockey League, will be the keynote speaker for the 2014 conference. The video of Schefter making the announcement from the Big House can be found on the MSBC YouTube page. Since joining the NHL in 2006, Collins has been instrumental in the NHL’s record- breaking revenue growth, the use of big events like the NHL Winter Classic to attract new fans, and landmark media rights and sponsorship deals. Prior to the joining the NHL, Collins spent more than 15 years in the NFL in the League office and with the Cleveland Browns.
MIlwaukee Tool and the MSBC had a great turnout for the Milwaukee Tool Networking Bootcamp that was held Wednesday, October 1, 2014. The event was held at the Ross School of Business gave students the opportunity to learn the proper techniques of networking and how to have a successful interview. Schefter also made an announcement this week on YouTube reminding sports professionals and aspiring students that registration is open for the 2014 MSBC. Registration for the 2014 MSBC is open to Michigan Undergraduates, Outreach Students, Michigan Alumni, and Industry Professionals. Be sure to register early as spots are filling quickly for Michigan Undergraduate students. To register for the conference go to the Registration page.
The MSBC is no longer accepting applications for the 2014 Big Initiative award. The planning committee is busy selecting the most qualified candidates to receive this great award. Ten students will be honored at the 2014 MSBC for their outstanding achievements within the sport industry.
