Recap: MSBC’s New York City Summer Event

Recently, the Michigan Sport Business Conference hosted its third annual summer networking event. This year’s event, #MSBCinNYC, was held at Twitter’s New York City office. The evening began with drinks and hor d’oeuvres followed by a special presentation and keynote conversation. Attendees also had the opportunity to connect with industry peers.

This year’s event attracted over 150 attendees ranging from summer interns to industry executives. The first presentation was targeted towards attendees looking to break into the industry, giving an inside look at the MSBC’s BIG Initiative Award. Recent winners touted the benefits the prize brings, describing how the BIG network helped them find success in their professional endeavors and encouraging students in attendance to apply.

The BIG presentation was followed by a keynote conversation between TJ Adeshola, Head of Sports Leagues Partnerships at Twitter, and Sam Farber, Vice President of Digital Media at the NBA. The pair discussed the current state of digital media in the NBA and Twitter’s influence on the league, providing the audience with valuable insights into the sports media landscape. The conversation was followed by a question and answer session between members of the audience and the presenters.

“The MSBC summer event is always such a fantastic way to connect and catch up with individuals in the industry,” said David Herman, associate partnerships manager at Twitter and a member of the MSBC’s Steering Committee. “There are never enough opportunities to connect with your peers throughout the summer but, once again, the MSBC student planning team provided a seamless event making it easy for everyone to come together. Additionally, we were thrilled to be able to host the event at Twitter NYC to bring the New York sport business community together for an evening of networking, learning and fun.”
