With the seventh annual Michigan Sport Business Conference being this Friday, the student planning team is completing its final preparations to welcome over 500 students, speakers and industry professionals to the Stephen M. Ross School of Business. In order to aid our student attendees with final preparations of their own, the MSBC has created a list of five keys for success on conference day. These tips will ensure students make the most of their MSBC experience.
1. Dress to impress
The conference is a business formal event, so be sure to dress accordingly. For an idea of what students wear to the conference, view photos from last year’s MSBC.
2. Make the most of your networking break
This year’s morning networking session, presented by the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology, is an incredible opportunity for students to connect with industry-leading executives. Prepare for your time slot by researching the past experiences and current projects of your selected executive. Look for current trends in their realm of work and prepare a few questions to gain insight into experiences in which you are specifically interested.
3. Come prepared
Though it is not mandatory, it is a good idea to bring a few resumes and business cards to the conference, as you never know who you may meet. It is also wise to practice an “elevator pitch,” as you may find that you only have a few seconds or minutes to speak to a professional. First impressions are always important.
4. Engage on social media
Prior to conference day, follow the MSBC’s official accounts on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. The MSBC will continue to share important conference news and updates on social media. On conference day, engage via Twitter as the MSBC live-tweets the day with notable quotes and other information. There will be special Snapchat geofilters for use on conference day, as well as a public #MSBC18 Snapchat story—make sure to share your photos and videos! The conference hashtag is #MSBC18 so use it to connect your experiences to those around you.
5. Plan to arrive early
Conference registration begins at 8:00 AM. In order to secure a good seat in Robertson Auditorium, it is recommended that you arrive as close to the beginning of registration as possible. Arrive early and spend time engaging with our official partners, who will be set up at tables in the Winter Garden.
The MSBC student planning team hopes these suggestions are helpful toward preparing for the conference. We look forward to seeing you at the MSBC this Friday!
