What is the Michigan Sport Business Conference (MSBC)?

A conference planned and organized each year by a group of undergraduate students (the Student Planning Team) at the University of Michigan. The goal of the event is to inspire and connect the next generation of leaders looking to enter the sport industry.

How many students are on the Student Planning Team?

Around 35 undergraduate students each year.

What roles are available on the Student Planning Team?

Varying roles across six divisions: Partnerships; Event Planning; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Team Relations; Digital Strategy; Marketing.

How many people attend the MSBC each year?

~900 individuals, comprised of Michigan students, students from other universities and executives working in the industry.

What is the application process like to join the MSBC Student Planning Team?

Our applications typically open immediately following the event each year. For 2020, the application will go live on October 24th. The process is broken down into three stages: (1) Initial application includes resume and responses to a few short questions (2) An in-person / virtual behavioral interview and (3) An in-person / virtual case study.

Who can apply to join the team?

Current freshmen, sophomores and juniors at the University of Michigan.

Do I need to be studying Sport Management or Business to join the team?

NO!!! We more than welcome students across a number of different schools and majors.

Can I join MSBC if I don’t attend the University of Michigan?

Unfortunately, only undergraduate students at the University of Michigan are able to apply to be on the planning team.

Can I attend the conference if I don’t know a lot about sport business?

This is encouraged! No prerequisite in sports or business is required. Whether you are just looking to learn more about the industry or find a job in the space, there is something for everyone at the MSBC.

Can I get an internship or a job through attending MSBC?

There are opportunities prior and during the conference where attendees can interact with recruiters across the industry. These opportunities range from resume drops, networking events and professional development workshops to prepare students for the next step in their career.
