Shortly after this statement, we formed a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee comprised of five members of our Student Planning Team and three MSBC alumni. This committee is devising short- and long-term plans that will create lasting positive change within our organization and at the University of Michigan as a whole. We look forward to continuing this work throughout the duration of MSBC 2020, and making a substantial impact on the current and future leaders of the business world.
SUPPORTING THE NEXT GENERATION
The MSBC is proud to support and work alongside aspiring high school students to give them the tools and resources needed to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. This year, our team has selected two organizations to support:
Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA): The JRLA is a charter high school located in Detroit that provides students with the atmosphere and setting to achieve success toward a college degree. Additionally, JRLA focuses on core values – such as respect, determination, and excellence – to empower individuals both inside and outside of the classroom. To learn more and donate, please visit jrladetroit.com.
Midnight Golf Program: Detroit’s Midnight Golf program provides high school seniors with a mentor network, scholarships, and college tours to best prepare students to take the next step in their academic careers. Midnight Golf uses the game of golf to give students a brighter vision of their future. To learn more and donate, please visit midnightgolf.org.
COVID-19 RELIEF
The Coronavirus pandemic has devastated the world. Putting the lives of each and every one of us and our loved ones at risk, COVID-19 has touched everyone in one way or another, and is rapidly changing how we live our everyday lives. As students attending the University of Michigan, we are highly aware of the challenges and risks that lie ahead, and also are eternally grateful for the brave women and men serving on the front lines to protect us.
In support of those most impacted by COVID-19 and the amazing healthcare workers, we have made donations to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge COVID-19 Response Fund, along with the University of Michigan’s COVID-19 Philanthropic Fund.
We know that this is just one small step and that there is much more work to be done and support to be given. We will continue to embrace these efforts as we can and encourage the MSBC family to do the same.
