Each week the MSBC will conduct a Q&A with two current planning committee members to provide some background on the people working hard to make the 2014 conference a success. This week Sophomore Justin Schmittberger shares his experience of being on the 2014 MSBC team.
MSBC: Explain your role in the MSBC team and what you are currently doing in preparation for the MSBC 2014 conference.
Schmittberger: As the Speaker Logistics Coordinator of the Speakers and Executives Division, I have a few responsibilities. These responsibilities include developing a list of potential speakers for our keynote, panels, and breakout sessions and drafting and sending invitations to these potential speakers. After sending the invitations, I keep track of confirmed speakers and gather their bios and headshots for the Conference. Additionally, I answer any questions they may have. Essentially, I serve a contact person from the Conference for the speakers. Currently, I am in the process of working with various members of the Planning Team to confirm speakers for the Conference. This entails researching industry executives, sending them invitations, and answering any questions they may have about the Conference.
MSBC: What is one goal you would like to accomplish for the 2014 conference?
Schmittberger: One goal I would like to accomplish for the 2014 Conference is to help put together a line up of speakers that provides a great deal of advice and knowledge to our audience. The attendees of the Conference look up to the speakers and I want to give the audience the opportunity to hear some them not only speak, but also the opportunity to network with them.
MSBC: What do you think about the 2014 MSBC theme?
Schmittberger: I think the 2014 MSBC theme is really interesting because it is forward looking. No longer is the Conference looking at what has been done in the past, but rather envisioning what the future of the sport business industry will be. To me, it is a tremendous opportunity to get industry executives with a lot of experience, industry professionals who have just entered sport business, and aspiring students into one room to generate ideas. I am really excited to see what ideas come out of the Conference and what they might lead to in the future.
MSBC: What has it been like being part of the 2014 planning committee?
Schmittberger: It has been a tremendous experience being a part of the 2014 Planning Committee thus far. Being able to work with my peers to help put together the Conference has been a lot of fun. It’s a unique opportunity to be a part of because we are able to connect industry executives and professionals with aspiring students.
MSBC: What are your professional aspirations upon graduating from the University of Michigan?
Schmittberger: Upon graduating from the University of Michigan, I hope to one day become the Commissioner of the National Football League. I have always been a huge football fan and would love to be able to continue to grow the game.
