5 Questions with MSBC Partnership Coordinator Yazan El-Baba

Each week the MSBC will conduct a Q&A with two current planning committee members to provide some background on the people working hard to make the 2014 conference a success. This week Freshman Yazan El-Baba shares his experience of being on the 2014 MSBC team.

MSBC: Explain your role in the MSBC team and what you are currently doing in preparation for the MSBC 2014 conference.

El-Baba: In the partnerships committee we have been working on finding new partners, while also securing our loyal partners. This being the third MSBC conference, we knew that we had to stir some things up in our department. With that said, my duties consisted of coming up with innovative partnership packages that are tailor-made for both the needs of the attendees and the partners.

MSBC: What inspired you to join the 2014 MSBC planning committee?

El-Baba: I am one of the rare committee members that never attended an MSBC conference. I chose to join the planning committee because of the exposure that the MSBC has on the University of Michigan Campus, after only three years of running. I looked towards the promising future of the MSBC, and knew I wanted to be a part of it.

MSBC: Who is one speaker you would like to see at the 2014 conference and why?

El-Baba: Dana White. He is arguably the greatest revolutionary in the sports world today, pulling the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) out of bankruptcy, and essentially creating the mainstream sport: Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

MSBC: What is your favorite part of being on the MSBC planning committee thus far?

El-Baba: Each committee is so specialized with their own unique tasks. However, when each individual piece is completed, and we regroup as an entire planning committee I realize how perfectly every thing fits together.

MSBC: What are your professional aspirations upon graduating from the University of Michigan?

El-Baba: My biggest dream would be to open up a global chain of mixed martial arts training centers that are specialized in training and managing the careers of amateur and professional fighters.
