Each week the MSBC will conduct a Q&A with two current planning committee members to provide some background on the people working hard to make the 2014 conference a success. This week Freshman Jordan Gertzman shares his experience of being on the 2014 MSBC team.
MSBC: Explain your role in the MSBC team and what you are currently doing in preparation for the MSBC 2014 conference.
Gertzman: The partnership division’s role is to recruit partners in an effort to raise the funds needed to put on the conference. As a Partnership Coordinator, I research and reach out to potential partners for the 2014 conference. Currently, I am working closely with partners from last year to help expand their presence at next year’s conference and activate their sponsorships.
MSBC: What inspired you to join the 2014 MSBC planning committee?
Gertzman: I attended the 2013 conference as a freshman, and was blown away by the quality of speakers and the professionalism each committee member displayed throughout the day. I was so impressed with the conference, considering it was only in its second year, that I knew I wanted to be a part of the team. It was the best decision I have made in my short time at Michigan thus far, and I hope to be involved for the rest of my academic career.
MSBC: What are some of the challenges you have faced in your role and how have you solved them?
Gertzman: Every member of the partnerships division, other than our VP, is new to the MSBC planning committee, so we have all had to learn on the fly over the last few months. Our biggest challenge as a team initially was communication, as we would conduct most of our work individually and team members would be unaware as to what everyone else was doing. Now, after several team meetings and opportunities to grow, our communication has never been better, and we are definitely in a good place going into the summer.
MSBC: Who is one speaker that you would like to see at the 2014 conference?
Gertzman: The one speaker I would love to see at the 2014 conference would be Mark Cuban. He is the definition of a game changer in the sport business world, and would be an amazing keynote speaker.
MSBC: What are your professional aspirations upon graduating from the University of Michigan?
Gertzman: After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in Marketing or Corporate Sponsorships. My work with the MSBC has introduced me to the partnership side of the industry, and I have really enjoyed working with various companies and building close relationships with leaders in the industry.
