5 Questions with MSBC Partnership Coordinator Jacob Lutt

Jacob Lutt

Each week the MSBC will conduct a Q&A with two current planning committee members to provide some background on the people working hard to make the 2014 conference a success. This week Sophomore Jacob Lutt shares his experience of being on the 2014 MSBC team.

MSBC: Explain your role in the MSBC team and what you are currently doing in preparation for the MSBC 2014 conference.

Lutt: As a Partnership Coordinator, it is my responsibility to work with my team to secure partners for the upcoming 2014 conference.  We research companies that we believe would be a good match for the MSBC to partner with, in terms of our goals as a group and their mission statement.  Currently, we are working to secure our partners that worked with us at last year’s conference, as well as prospecting new companies for potential partners.

MSBC: What made you interested in becoming the MSBC Partnership Coordinator?

Lutt: After attending the previous two conferences, I became interested in joining the planning committee, as I was extremely impressed with the event.  The partnership and sponsorship aspect of the sports industry has always been of interest to me, and the opportunity to work with corporations seemed like the ideal situation to get my foot in the door to the sponsorship and partnership side of the industry.

MSBC: What is one panel you would like to see at the MSBC 2014 conference?

Lutt: One panel I would be interested in seeing at MSBC 2014 conference would be former athletes discussing the transition from player to broadcaster.  Often times it is assumed this shift is an easy one, however I would be interested in being introduced to the rigorous training experience and change in culture that these former players undergo.

MSBC: What is one goal you have for the MSBC 2014 conference?

Lutt: As a partnership coordinator, I hope to see increased interaction between students and the partners at the event.  I hope to see increased student awareness of the MSBC partners, and potentially even have students use the event as a recruiting tool, to potentially gain interviews for internships or full-time positions.

MSBC: What are your professional aspirations upon graduating from the University of Michigan?

Lutt: Upon my graduation from Michigan, I hope to gain an entry-level job in baseball, working in either marketing or sponsorship.  Baseball has always been a love of mine, and I hope to use the skills I develop through my education within the School of Kinesiology, as well as my MSBC experience to assist me in this position.
