MSBC Releases Theme for 2014 Conference

The Michigan Sport Business Conference is proud to unveil the theme for the 2014 conference as Game Changers: Innovating Today. Defining Tomorrow. This theme represents topics like how quickly resources, such as technology, are changing and improving the fan experience. The MSBC believes that industry professionals are integrating new avenues of content in order to provide consumers with as much information as possible and therefore hope increase the level of interaction. Business leaders are making changes today that will forever change the business of sports.

Over the last two years, the MSBC’s theme has focused on past events that have shaped what the business of sport is today. In 2012, the theme of the inaugural MSBC was “The Changing Faces of Sports” and focused on the ways marketing, media, and sponsorships were impacted by the digital age. It was followed by a concentration on brand growth and globalization in the MSBC 2013 conference—”Sport: A Blueprint for Economic and Brand Growth.” Consequently, the committee decided that this was the year to start focusing on the future. President David Herman explains the inspiration of theme below.

“As a team we decided to first look back and see what we have covered in the past few years. We came to the conclusion that we had focused on events/ideas/individuals that have already changed, that have already been in the spotlight, and that currently define sport business. So for this year, we want to focus on the future. We want to try to find the areas in the industry that are being invented or created now that will impact the future.”

Although none of the speakers have been confirmed, the committee is focused on bringing in speakers that are leading the charge of the next decade of sport business. The planning committee is currently deciding which panels to include in order to cover topics that best fit the theme. The conference is scheduled to be held on October 24, 2014.
